TV Barn Doors

Jun 1

The first big project we’ve added to the house since building in 2013 has been TV barn doors. We loved the outcome! We can close the doors if we are going for more of a “sitting room” look 🙂 And then just slide them open when ready to turn on the game! It’s a great addition to our open concept kitchen/living room with the crisp white doors and sleek black hardware it fits in nicely.

First we figured out how big a TV we could get without having the sliding doors go past the fireplace bump-out. We didn’t want them to block the windows. Then they cut a hole in the drywall and made a custom cabinet with a shelf for the DVD player and Dish Box.

We put a separate white board across the top for stability to hold the black hardware. Painting it white made it just blend in with the wall and disappear so that it wouldn’t be super noticeable. The contractor constructed the doors offsite and they are custom built doors to be made to the correct size. I wanted a simple barn door look with the one angled beam on each door.

Then the doors go up. There is a groove along the bottom of the doors so they stay on the track as well as a stopper.

When we built we did put an eyeball light over the fireplace in case we ever did anything on the mantel and wanted to accent it. At night it’s great to see it lit up.

We got to decorate it for Fall afterwards and loved the look!
